Fall Bible Study Options
Three Adult Church School classes will be offered this fall on Sunday Mornings at 9:30.
The Library Class led by Tom Perdue meets in the church library will study the book Faith-Sharing: Dynamic Christian Witnessing by Invitation by H. Eddie Fox and George E. Morris. The book is in its sixth printing (2008) and costs $15.00 at Cokesbury. Contact Tom Purdue for questions about this class.
The Adult Forum Class meets in a classroom behind the kitchen and will discuss the provocative book, written in question-answer format, entitled Don’t Know Much About the Bible (Everything You Need to Know About the Good Book but Never Learned) by Kenneth C. Davis. Mary Williams-Kotnik is the contact person for this class. A new copy of this book costs $15.00.
The Parlor Class meets in the church parlor and will study the book, The Natural History of the Bible. This study, lead by Keith Cassel, deals primarily with the first 5 books of the Old Testament. Discussions will center on the ecology of the river, desert, pasture, rainfed, and coastal regions and how life, in general, and the scripture, in particular, was impacted by the environment and geographical factors. The book written by Daniel Hillel costs $30, but the Christian Education Committee has purchased 2 copies that can be used by class members. Keith has developed handouts that could be photocopied as the course progresses.
Preschool, elementary, middle school and high school church school classes are offered at the 9:30 time period.
Thursday mornings from 11:00-12:30 there will be an in-depth Bible study – Kerygma: Discovering the Bible. Robert Owens will lead this comprehensive Bible study that will help you see and appreciate the Bible as a whole, inviting you to relate The Story to your story. This 30 week study begins September 16 and runs to May 2011. This course explores biblical people, events, ideas and places through reading, reflecting and discussing. It is designed for people who have already experienced scriptural studies or those who are just beginning. Call the church office to sign-up or come on Thursday mornings.
