August 29: Rally Day -  Breakfast followed by children attending new SS classes and adult offerings shared.

September 1: WNL  -   Mission Trip Revue – Don’t miss a good meal and fellowship around the table plus a presentation by our youth and adults who went on Mission Trip to New Orleans.  Meal begins at 5:45 and program starts at 6:30.

September 8: WNL – Talent Show -  The second annual church-wide talent show will  be held September 8 following the WNL meal.  We would love to have a variety of talent so think of something that you or a group can do and plan to be present.  Talents of singing, dancing, playing an instrument, sharing a hobby, sharing a trip, an entertaining reading, a magic act, a sport demonstration are all welcome.

Be on the lookout for announcements for special events for youth in the summer.

  Larry Shelton and Grace Odom  led a group of youth and adults to New Orleans to continue the needed work of rebuilding homes in New Orleans that were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.  The group worked through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.  Twelve youth and 5 adults made the trip the week of June 19-26.  The group returned on Saturday June 26 being thankful for a safe and worthwhile week of work.  The group stayed in an abandoned Presbyterian Church in New Orleans East named Camp Olive.  The camp accomodations were air conditioned making this a perfect place for the group.

The group  teamed up with about 25 members of Presbyterian Church of the Master in Omaha.  They worked on all phases of home rebuilding.  Everyone is encouraged to consider joining a Mission Trip in the future.  This is a wonderful opportunity to help those who are still in need in New Orleans, visit a great city, work alongside other people for the common good.  People are welcome regardless of skill level.

The youth with leader Kevin Fischer  worked hard raising money for the trip.  The picture at the left shows a flurry of activity as they prepare for the potato bar lunch.  They also sponsored a movies on the lawn evening.  The group has t-shirts  saying "Presbyterian Disaster Relief – Out of Chaos Hope" 

Make plans now to help with the Wake Interfaith Hospitality Week.  Sign up on line or on the sign-up boards in the church.  These are some of the needs. Sign up sheet.

Overnight host and hostess:   Male and female needed to spend night at church.  Arrive around 8:30 pm and leave around 7:30.  Beds are set up in the nursery room and parlor.  Handle any concerns overnight and be sure that guests are up and ready to return to the day center by 7:00 am.  Supervise breakfast.  Easy breakfast foods (cereals, poptarts, etc) are available for guests.

Evening host and hostess:  Male and female to be at church from around 5:30 pm until overnight host arrive.  Interact with families, eat dinner, and perhaps plan evening activities for children.

Meal Preparer:  Prepare and serve meal to guest at around 6:30 pm.

Drivers: Pick up or return guests to the day center on Kent Road.  Some guests have their own transportation but others need transportation support.  Evening time around 6:00 pm and morning time around 7:00 am.

Set up Helpers: Prepare SS rooms for guests on Sunday of WIHN week.

Breakdown helpers: Return SS rooms to regular use early Sunday morning.

Laundry Helpers:  Wash sheets, etc at end of week…

Meals begin at 5:45 and program begins at 6:30.  Reservations by Monday noon of the week of the program are required for meal.  No reservations are needed for program only.  Cost of meal $7.00 per person.  Children 5 and under free.

Final schedule will be available in late August. 

WBPC is signed up to work with the Brown Bag Ministry the first Saturday of each month.   This is a continuation of the ministry started in June 2009 by the elementary Sunday School classes.   All ages are welcome; this is a great family ministry.  We will meet at WBPC at 8:30 am on these Saturday mornings and go to St. Andrew Catholic Church in Apex.  We will then unload supplies, and begin to prepare and pack the lunch bags.  We will leave the church at about 11:40 to go to Moore Square.  We usually finish up by 1:00 pm.

St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church is located at 3008 Old Raleigh Rd., Apex, NC  27502.  (You can meet us there at 9:00 am if you prefer).  If you are unable to join us but want to contribute to this effort, we will be collecting the items listed below.  Also, any kind of desserts that will fit in Ziploc bags are welcome.  If you bring items to the WBPC church kitchen by 8:30 a.m. on our Saturday, we will take them to the church for packing into bags.

Items needed: sliced cheese, ziploc bags, Nabs, granola bars
