News & Happenings
The Sanctuary Piano Campaign is a success!
Our new piano, a beautiful 6' Boston grand piano, arrived at WBPC on May 17. Many people prayed and worked and gave to the piano fund to make this possible. We celebrated with a "Family and Friends" concert at the church Sunday afternoon, May 21.
Raleigh Flute Choir Performance
Great concert, Raleigh Flute Choir! Their benefit concert in the WBPC sanctuary on Friday night, May 6, 2016, was an eclectic and enjoyable program that included music by Franz Schubert and Claude Debussy, Scott Joplin’s “Solace,” and folk music of the Appalachians and Eastern Europe.
Thanks to all who attended the performance, all who made donations, and especially the talented flutists of RFC who made this concert a reality. Over $850 was raised for Avent West Children’s Mentoring Program.
Music at WBPC
Glory to God
In 2015, Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church began using the new Presbyterian hymnal, Glory to God, in worship.
Our Chancel Choir (for adults and teens) sings for 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship and seasonal services. They sing a wide range of music – church anthems and hymns from the Renaissance to the present day, chant, spirituals, Taize, folk music from America and around the world, and contemporary styles.
Wednesday rehearsals 7:30-9:00 p.m. September - May
The Chancel Ringers (for adults and teens) play for Sunday worship monthly and for special seasonal services. In addition to music for handbells alone, they accompany congregational hymns and responses, and choir anthems. WBPC owns a 4 1/2-octave set of Schulmerich handbells and a 3-octave set of Malmark Choirchimes.
Tuesday rehearsals 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. September – May
Singers are welcome to share their talents in variety of formats, including solos, duets, trios, and other small ensembles
The Praise Team leads worship at the contemporary (@ The Table) service on Sunday evenings at 5:00 pm. Van Anthony Hall directs this team. The team includes Bruce, Katie, and Beth, vocalists; Van Anthony, keyboard; Mike, John and Jeff, guitar; and Heidi, drums.
Children learn to praise God with many new and exciting songs during VBS week.
Sunday School Music
Volunteers at WBPC lead our children ages 3 through Second grade in music during Sunday School times.
WBPC is fortunate to have many instrumentalists in their midst. Members play piano, guitar, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, and percussion. Opportunities are always available to collaborate with the choirs, to play solo, or to participate in an ensemble. In 2006, through the generosity of church members and the Shalom School of the Arts, WBPC purchased its first Orff instruments. At left Morgan playing flute and Miranda playing oboe.
