Music

Let every instrument be tuned for praise! Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise!
And may God give us faith to sing always:
Alleluia!  1

Chancel Choir

Our Chancel Choir sings for 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship, seasonal services, and typically presents a major choral work with orchestra annually.  They sing a wide range of music – church anthems and hymns from the Renaissance to the present day, chant, spirituals, Taize, folk music from America and around the world, and contemporary styles.

Wednesday rehearsals 7:30-9:00 p.m. September – May

Chancel Ringers

The Chancel Ringers (for adults and teens) play for Sunday worship monthly and for special seasonal services. In addition to music for handbells alone, they accompany congregational hymns and responses, and choir anthems. WBPC owns a 4-octave set of Schulmerich handbells and a 2-octave set of Malmark Choirchimes.

Tuesday rehearsals 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. September – May

Praise Team

The Praise Team leads worship at the contemporary (@ The Table) service on Sunday evenings at 5:00 pm.  Van Anthony Hall directs this team.  The team includes Bruce, Katie, and Beth, vocalists; Van Anthony, keyboard; Mike, John and Jeff, guitar; and Heidi, drums.

Men’s Ensemble

Men from the Chancel Choir and the congregation at large have formed this choir to sing music for 4-part men’s voices. This group sings periodically throughout year, and so does not have a regularly scheduled rehearsal time. This ensemble can be a good choice for someone who likes to sing, but is unable to attend the ongoing weekly Chancel Choir rehearsals.

Singing Sisters

In 2005, members of the Women of the Church organized as the Singing Sisters to praise God and enjoy good fellowship. Women and girls of all ages are welcome to participate. Like the Men’s Ensemble, this chorus sings periodically throughout the year.

Vacation Bible School Singers

Children learn many new songs during the VBS  week.  Janet Cherry and Mary Todd taught children to praise God with many new and exciting songs.

Children’s Choir

IMG_2417CChildren in grades 1-5 are invited to participate in the Children’s Choir. With the skillful help of volunteers, these children develop their singing voices, learn about music, and explore the music of the church. They regularly play Orff instruments, a wide variety of rhythm instruments and Choirchimes. The Children’s Choir sing in worship once a month, and from time to time are a part of larger presentations—Christmas pageants, musicals, and neighborhood programs.

Wednesday rehearsals 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. September – May .

Sunday School Music

Volunteers at WBPC lead our children ages 3 through Second grade in music during Sunday School times.  The children sing in church once in a while.

Instrumentalists

WBPC is fortunate to have many instrumentalists in their midst. Members play piano, guitar, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, and percussion. Opportunities are always available to collaborate with the choirs, to play solo, or to participate in an ensemble. In 2006, through the generosity of church members and the Shalom School of the Arts, WBPC purchased its first Orff instruments. They are used in worship, choir rehearsals, and in programs of the Shalom School of the Arts.  At left Donna playing flute and Miranda playing oboe.
